Thai-Cambodian border dispute: Military forces on both sides are expanding

  • by

Thailand has sent more troops to the disputed border with Cambodia.

Thailand’s Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Phon Tham Wicharachai said the move was in response to the buildup of troops from the other side, according to reports from Thailand.

Tensions have been rising between the two sides along the border, which is not clearly demarcated.

There was a brief exchange of fire late last month on May 28, killing a Cambodian soldier.

Bangkok says Cambodian soldiers and civilians have repeatedly crossed the border into Thailand at the scene, and Thai authorities have criticized Phnom Penh for showing no interest in controlling the situation.
