  • by

Global Forest Watch, which monitors international deforestation, estimates that Myanmar’s deforestation will reach 710,000 acres in 2024 alone.

To put it in perspective, the area is nearly five times the size of Yangon.

Myanmar’s deforestation problem has been going on for decades, with more than 1.96 million acres destroyed between 2002 and 2024, according to Global Forest Watch.

Myanmar’s forest situation is in dire need of urgent attention, and environmentalists are warning that the consequences of deforestation are already being felt.
